Most common questions regarding traction lifts
An elevator without a machine room is considered a machine room-less elevator. These elevators do not use a separate machine room that will take extra space. Instead, all the crucial components are located inside the shaft, near the exterior front wall of the shaft. This solution, besides saving space for the building owner, also makes the elevator installation easier for the technicians.
One of the main benefits of deciding upon a machine room-less (MRL) elevator is saving of space, because of the lack of a need for a machine room. Another motivation for choosing the MRL elevator is the lower electricity usage. Since there is no need for an entire room full of equipment, the electricity savings can be up to 60% lower. Also, there are fewer moving parts and straightforward designs tailored to your needs, so this type of elevator makes your building more efficient.
The machine room is a distinct room where all of the elevator powering equipment is situated. Machine rooms for traction lifts are usually placed on the rooftop, whereas machine rooms for hydraulic elevators are almost always located on the ground floor or in the basement. While machine rooms can be used in traction and hydraulic elevators, they are not always required.
Geared traction lifts are comprised of a gearbox attached to the AC or DC motor. The motor propels a wheel that rotates and moves the rope.
The gearless drive system is recognizable by the wheel that is attached to the electric motor to directly rotate the drive. The easiest way to differentiate a gearless from a geared traction elevator is by the location of the wheel. The geared elevator will have its wheel attached to the AC or DC motor.
